GHOSTBUSTERS DAY 2024: Jason Reitman teases many more stories to come in Ghostbusters universe

June 9th, 2024 by Marc Comments

While we all waited with baited breath yesterday for exciting Ghostbusters news, given that it was Ghostbusters Day and the 40th anniversary of the original movie, it turned out to be fairly quiet.

The big two reveals of the day were that Netflix were teasing some news on their upcoming animated series and that Haslab were teasing a new Ecto-1 product to be revealed before the end of the year, but alas, no news of new movies, shows or even a comic series.

However, a new video has appeared online (below) of director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Jason Reitman doing an introduction to a special screeing of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire at Sony Pictures Studios yesterday and while the introduction does contain alot of the expected content about the franchise in general, Reitman does seem very upbeat and excited when he says at the end: “We have a lot more stories that we want to tell you, that we’re working on.”

GHOSTBUSTERS DAY 2024: Ghostbusters Haslab teases Ecto-1 coming soon…

This is good news because, since Frozen Empire’s release, there has been a lot of chat about how it failed to light up the box office and, with the lack of announcements yesterday, there was fear that perhaps Sony Pictures had become disillusioned with the franchise and were less than keen to continue the story on down the line, but Reitman’s joy at the screening as his referencing of future stories in the Ghostbusters universe has us hopeful that the IP is alive and well and we’ll all know who to call for many years to come.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
