Zack Snyder has plans for as many as six Rebel Moon movies…

April 21st, 2024 by Marc Comments

While the second movie in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon story, The Scargiver, has arrived on Netflix to less than exciting reviews, it seems that Snyder is still planning on developing the universe with a lot more movies, with the third already planned.

Bad reviews or not, we all know that the success of any franchise depends not on what the reviewers say but on how many people watch the final product and it certainly seems that in that way, it’s doing pretty well so far.

With an extended, r-rated director’s cut of both movies planned for this summer alongside a currently running comic series, a novel and a videogame, it certainly seems that Snyder and Netflix still have confidence that the story will have legs and fans, reviews be damned.

On a third installment, Snyder had this to say: “We absolutely have the story all set, we did all that work. We wrote a treatment for the movie so we’ll see how we go ahead.”

However, he’s also trying to work out, if he gets the go-ahead, he should release one movie or replicate the double release strategy of the first two movies which were a few months apart: “I guess four makes sense,” he says.

“Four or six movies, depending… I guess it’s whether or not every time we make one of these movies we make two, that’s the question.”

So, six movies, released over three two-part schedules? He’s got big plans, no-one can deny him that.

“We were talking about it the other day and I was like, would an audience be disappointed if they only got one movie now from Rebel Moon? Would they be like, ‘Oh, it’s one now? Great.'”

If there’s one thing Snyder does – just look at the DC universe or Army of the Dead – it’s embrace the motto of ‘go big or go home’, with his plans often sadly – depending on where you sit – not panning out.

Honestly, I thought his previous two movies, Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon Part One, were terrible, so bad that I can’t believe this is the same director who gave us Man of Steel and Watchmen, but I’ve not seem the second Rebel Moon yet, though I know a few who have and word isn’t so good, but look, if there’s an audience out there and the franchise is big enough to sustain itself, then I say have at it… I’m just not decided yet if I’ll one of the ones excited to see what comes next.

REBEL MOON stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Staz Nair, with Charlie Hunnam and Anthony Hopkins and more. Premiering December 22nd, 2023
