Tournament Report

The First Irish Tournament took place at Warpcon, in Cork, the winner laid claim to a €25 voucher for a traders table and the runner up took a €15 voucher. The rest of the entry fee was given as a donation to the conventions charity, the Cork Childrens Hospital Club.

Jinteki was the most played Corp faction there and Anarchs were the most played runners faction.

Alan Noonan was the only one playing an Andromeda runner and NBN Making News combo which lead to him declaring himself “the only asshole here” though other players were quick to point out he wasn’t playing Weyland so he didn’t qualify for asshole status.

Alan swiftly took the lead and maintained it for the entire tournament. The battle for second place was much tighter however with four people still challenging as we entered the final round. Eventually second place was secured by Justin Walsh.

Looking for a game?

While there doesn’t appear to be an umbrella group for UK players, in Ireland there is a group called Netrunner Ireland https://www.facebook.com/groups/394426297332218/ , who have taken it upon themselves to run tournaments, regular game nights and otherwise try to promote their favourite game, they are also quite willing to help new players out if they have any questions.

Their main aim is to connect players and help build a community around the game to ensure it keeps going. Like a TV show, games will only keep going as long as there is a sizeable audience for it..

There are also groups on Google+ and Reddit but I don’t go there for fear of dragons.

The two main regular meet ups are:

Netrunner in GamersWorld Dublin, every Friday at 5:30pm!

Netrunner in Belfast in the little board game cafe, Saturday afternoons (ask here first if there is a meet up this week https://www.facebook.com/groups/394426297332218/ )

Players of all skill levels are welcome, come learn to play, improve your game or discuss the background stories.

Netrunner Ireland have also told me they hope to have some even bigger news in February.

Till then may your points be plentiful and your flatlines few.

End Run.
