Disney and Hirsch in talks for another summer at Gravity Falls

June 16th, 2024 by Marc Comments

One of my and my kids’ favourite animated shows, Gravity Fall, could be returning for another amazing summer of scary fun.

Word is that creator Alex Hirsch is in talks with Disney about bringing the hit series back for a third season and we here at FTN Towers are giddy at the prospect.

“You know, we’re in conversations with Alex. He’s about to publish a book with Disney on his project. And we also do some shorts. So never say never,” said Executive Vice President of Television Animation and Disney Branded Television Meredith Roberts.

Gravity Falls was created by Hirsch and ran on Disney channel way back in ye olde days of 2012 and follows twin brother and sister Dipper and Mabel Pine (voiced by Jason Ritter and Kristen Schaal) who were left with their Grunkle Stan – who Hirsch himself voiced – in the town of Gravity Falls for the summer. While there, the Pine twins learn that all is not as it seems in the town and all sort of madness ensues, picking up with gnome attacks and leading to the apocalypse and it connects to Rick & Morty along the way (Google is your friend).

The series was set to be twenty episodes and when it ended in 2015 as planned, Hirsch had to assure the fans it was his choice and he wasn’t cancelled: “This is 100% my choice, and it’s something I decided on a very long time ago,” Hirsch wrote on social media, “I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end. There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff.”

We can but hope that Hirsch has a good idea to bring Dipper and Mabel back for another summer in Gravity Falls because, while I do not want a cheap follow-up, I would love to see the twins return for more adventures with Stanley (and Stanford) not to mention Soos and Wendy.

Thoughts on returning to Gravity Falls? Let me know…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
