GHOSTBUSTERS DAY 2024: Netflix give brief update on Ghostbusters series

June 8th, 2024 by Marc Comments

With the annual Ghostbusters Day taking place this Saturday, it appears that those at Sony Pictures Animation want to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise a bit early, teasing the upcoming Netflix series!

Being posted to the official Sony Pictures Animations socials, the classic tagline “There’s something strange in the neighborhood…” is used, adding that their “supernatural comedy series based on Ghostbusters is coming soon,” writers Jason over at Ghostbusters News.

While not technically an update, this does point towards potentially more information coming as part of Ghostbusters Day. In the meantime, while details are a bit vague, we do know that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan and filmmaking partner Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman will serve as executive producers, and in a previous interview with Reitman, it was revealed that the series will “navigate an unexplored era and decade of Ghostbusters canon.” Consider us intrigued!

Back in March, in promoting Frozen Empire, Kenan would share an update on the series, saying: “I just watched an entire art presentation for the show. I’ve seen the sets and the environments, and I just saw my first glimpse at a world of supernatural characters as realized by our brilliant creative team. All I can say is the work is being done as we speak. It’s in what we call full development. Scripts are being written, art is being created, and it’s a great time to be a Ghostbuster.”

Check out our then exclusive story from waaaaaaay back in 2020 when we first reported that a Netflix series was coming… could it still be the same series? If so, welcome to the Ghostbusters Multiverse:
